The Meramec River flows 218 miles totally within the state of Missouri and empties into the Mississippi River south of St Louis near Arnold, Missouri. The last 40 or so miles of the river crosses the St Louis metro area from west to east. It was this area that the Lord gave Richard and Darlene Tittle as the target for their first solo opportunity to pray to see a geographical area set free of demonic strongholds through prayer.
Meramec River near St Louis
This prayer journey was aimed at removing strongholds from the Meramec River that might be related to deaths on highways and the river. We prayed at the following locations:
Pacific MO
Eureka MO
Castlewood State Park
Fenton MO
Arnold MO near the merging of the river into the Mississippi River
Pacific Missouri limestone cliffs overlooking the Meramec River
The town of Pacific was named after the Pacific Railroad that linked St Louis with the west. This is also where the major highway of Rt 66 from an earlier generation joins with the western states. The interstate highway I-44 is known for its many fatalities between here and I-270. We prayed here for this mantling of death culture and for sins against First Nations peoples and resulting curses.
Eureka Missouri Six Flags Amusement Park on the Meramec River
Castlewood State Park on Meramec River
Over many years a large number of adults and children have drowned at this location in spite of its tranquil appearance. Many prayers have been offered here to remove death structures.
Joyce Meyer Ministries in Fenton Missouri
Joyce Meyer Ministries has been a very powerful force for life in the midst of darkness in St Louis and many other places. We prayed here to bless this ministry.
Arnold Missouri Tesson River Bridge over Meramec River
We prayed in several locations near Arnold for both the Meramec and Mississippi Rivers and the businesses and homes near here. Richard and Darlene lived not too far from this location and frequently passed over this bridge. We always felt the gladness of the river for the prayers made here.
This Musconetcong River flows from Lake Hopatcong in the northwest corner of New Jersey 46 miles to the Delaware River.
Musconetcong River Journey
It was during our time at Christ Episcopal Church that we learned the purpose and process of doing prayer journeys in different areas of the U.S, It was important to train our own congregation and touch our own home area. The Musconetcong River was very important to the First Nations tribes in what is now northwest New Jersey. We even had one household who lived on the very river. Praying along the river locations was very meaningful and practical to our church.
Lake Hopatcong
This manmade recreational lake also includes the headwaters for the Musconetcong River. When we prayed to bless this lake, we were praying for all the waters that flowed through and past Christ Episcopal Church in Budd Lake and 90 percent of our parishioners.
Stanhope United Methodist Church on Lake Musconetcong
Christ Episcopal Church’s first home was only a few blocks from here in Stanhope. Praying at this location felt like restoring a blessing that had been removed by leaving this town when the church moved. The former church building was now occupied by a Buddhist congregation. We prayed that they would all find the Lord Jesus.
Musconetcong River in Stephens State Park in Hackettstown
This is a very serene park with campsites very near where many of us lived.
Penwell Mills on Musconetcong River
This is one of the mills on the Musconetcong River that became quite successful as a commercial enterprise.
Bridge at Riegelsville PA on the Delaware River
Riegelsville is about at mile upstream from Mount Joy, where the Musconetcong flows into the Delaware River.
This journey was conducted in March 2009. It’s participants were the people of Shore Vineyard Church. Toms River is the name of the town which is the county seat of Ocean County, but it is also the name of the primary river which flows through the county, though it starts in Monmouth County.
We prayed at the following locations:
Clarksburg - in Monmouth County in residential backyards
St Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Church, Cassville - see below
East Veteran’s Highway - where for many years this was one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the state. We prayed based on visions we had of Native Americans in distress. We believe there had been a curse here as a result. Shortly after this journey, the state and county undertook a safety project that has greatly improved this road.
Pine Lake Park - at this location on the Ridgeway branch of the river, our discernment was that their were spiritually negative influences, so we prayed here at a later time to remove these influences
CIBA-GEIGY Chemical Plant - see below
Shore Vineyard Church - see below
Toms River Prayer Journey 1 - 2009
St Vladimir's Russian Orthodox Church
There are actually two Russian Orthodox churches in this Russian community, the other one being St Mary’s.. In the early 1900s through the 1920s, the U.S. had a deal with Russia to perform the Russian Army’s munitions testing at the Lakewood Proving Grounds which later became the Naval Air Engineering Center. As a result there has always since then been a Russian community in the middle of New Jersey.
Ciba-Geigy Chemical Plant
For 40 years, chemical companies developed dyes in this location, but waste products were either dumped or buried, resulting in ground water contamination. The most concerning outcome was a variety of childhood cancers resulting in sicknesses and deaths. Lawsuits and legislations resulted in various forms of compensation and reclassification of these sites as national Superfund sites. Even with the resulting remediation and community projects, there is much bitterness between local residents, the state, the federal government and “big business” .
When we prayed here on this journey, for many participants, this was their first “prophetic prayer action” they had participated in. We treated the water at this site as bitter in the same way Moses and the Jewish people turned to God when the water in the desert was found to be bitter. They through in a branch of wood specified by God and the water turned sweet. Christians see this as a prophetic precursor to the cross of Jesus redeeming us from all bitterness.
One of our members, Ann, took a fairly long branch, and placed it in the water to prophetically enact what Moses did. As Ann through in the branch, she declared the waters made clean and pure supernaturally by God. At that moment, an entire tree along the bank of the river broke and fell into the river. This was shocking to us all. We felt that God was with us. If we were willing to trust him to take away disease and distrust, he was telling us he would bring about much greater results than we expected!
Shore Vineyard Church on the Toms River (to left of Planet Fitness
Shore Vineyard Church moved into its new home, in a former plumbing display showroom, 150 feet from one of the best fishing locations on the Toms River, Spring 2012. The unprecedented flooding from Superstorm Sandy occurred 6 months later. The water together with toxic substances from nearby businesses coved the church and much of its possessions almost 2 feet deep. Quick work, prayer, financial contributions, and the help and spare chairs from ten churches both near and far, allowed the church to continue operating and never miss a Sunday.
This was a great experience! As part of the prayer leadership team for the 2011 New Jersey Will Graham Celebration, we proposed a prayer tour of the two counties that were part of the celebration. The point was to see where we live and pray all around the periphery
Two County Prayer Locations
We prayed on the periphery of Monmouth and Ocean Counties:
1 - Calvary Lighthouse Church
2 - Seaside Heights
3 - Mystic Island
4 - New Egypt
5 - Clifwood Beach
6 - Highlands
7 - Ocean Grove
Calvary Lighthouse - Lakewood NJ
This was our first prayer journey by air conditioned bus. We started at Calvary Lighthouse in Lakewood, which had been the location of several large gatherings for worship in advance of the Jersey Shore Celebration with Will Graham. We gathered in one of their side buildings for coffee and worship. We talked some about what we do in a prayer journey, and then we prayed.
Seaside Heights NJ
This location at the north end of Seaside Heights on the beach has been the location of numerous prayer times. We greatly prayed here for the deliverance of many at the Jersey Shore.
Mystic Island NJ
We prayed at the southernmost point of Ocean County at the end of Radio Road, right on the Great Bay and across from Atlantic City. We prayed here for all of southern Ocean County to hear and receive the Gospel.
New Egypt NJ
This was the most powerful of our prayer stops. New Egypt is the center of New Jersey. In this location, at a Christmas Tree farm, we were able to tear down racism in a beautiful moment given to us by God.
Clifwood Beach NJ
Clifwood Beach is the farthest west location of Monmouth County along the beach. We prayed on the beach for all of Monmouth County.
Mt Mitchell - Highlands NJ
Mt Mitchell provides both a war memorial and a memorial to 9/11. From the high overlook it is possible to see downtown Manhattan. From here we prayed for all of the water locations as well as northeastern Monmouth County.
Great Auditorium - Ocean Grove NJ
Our final prayer location was also the site of the Jersey Shore Celebration - the Great Auditorium. Here we were able to pray for all those who would come.
After Shore Vineyard moved to 1 S Main Street in South Toms River, we felt it would be important to claim the land all around us for the Lord. As we did the research, we found several interesting things: on
- There used to be a railroad stop at the location of our property. South Toms River was "on the wrong side of the tracks"
- South Toms River separated from Toms River as a township so that the minority people, primarily African-American could have their own separate government and schools. This occurred around the time of a Ku Klux Klan cross burning just across the river
- The local area across the river, now known as Huddy Park, was named after an important incident near the end of the Revolution, where Captain Joshua Huddy was illegally kidnapped and executed by British troops which actually resulted in the war being extended.
- The property where Shore Vineyard now is located used to be owned by the first Mormon Church in New Jersey which was located just across the street. Our site contained a Mormon graveyard. The graves were all moved to Utah when the Mormons moved west.
These were all occasions for repentance and prayer
Shore Vineyard and Surroundings
We prayed at Shore Vineyard and the following locations:
A - The base of the bridge that joins Toms River and South Toms River. It is also just below the former railroad depot.
B - Huddy Park enclosure that depicts the construction of the blockhouse where Joshua Huddy was taken prisoner during the Revolution.
C - Site of former Mormon Church
Huddy Park
Here the team asked forgiveness for every unlawful and violent act (such as was committed when the British kidnapped and executed Huddy, and we forgave those who committed these acts. We also repented for and forgave the separation of South Toms River from Toms River and the corresponding segregation of races. We called for a new time of valuing every ethnicity and gifting of all people groups.
Former Mormon Church Site
The Mormon church was established in Toms River around 1840. At one time it was the most popular religious affiliation in the area. Strangely enough both properties housing Shore Vineyard had Mormon connections prior to being our church location. We prayed at this location repenting for presentation of any Gospel other than the one which preaches Christ crucified.
Superstorm Sandy was a devastating storm in New Jersey from Long Beach Island north. Many homes and businesses never recovered. Our own church, Shore Vineyard, was flooded and restored only through the generosity of many other people and churches. The concept of this prayer journey was to pray for the the restoration of communities that had been particularly devastated. This journey was completed in June 2012.
Healing the Jersey Shore Prayer Locations
For this journey, we had about 20 people total. We prayed at locations that had been devastated by Sandy 7-8 months earlier. We found that a secondary story emerged over the day. Several of the people who prayed with us were also able to tell the story of how they were restored from personal devastation during the same period - addiction, poverty, prostitution. We prayed at Long Beach Island, Beach Haven West, Seaside Heights, Mantoloking, Sea Bright, Union Beach, and Toms River.
Saint Francis Community Center Barnegat
For several years after Sandy devastated Long Beach Island communities, the community center was headquarters for the recovery.
Mantaloking after Sandy
Part of the Mantaloking bridge was destroyed and a portion of Rt 35 was washed away. Here we prayed for the entire New Jersey shore area, for the beach to be united to the mainland and for north and south communities to be restored and work well together.
Prayer Team at Union Beach NJ
Many of the homes in Union Beach were destroyed and some chose not to rebuild. Here we prayed for the funds and inspiration for families to rebuild. We also prayed for all of the non beach communities north of here that had been devastated by flooding from Sandy.
In 2009 a team from Shore Vineyard prayed along the Toms River from its source in Monmouth County to the city of Toms River. We were now praying for the navigable part of the river. In 2012 Superstorm Sandy flooded the river and wiped out the local Halloween Parade. We believed that we needed to complete this initiative prior to the 2013 Halloween Parade.
Toms River 2 Prayer Locations
In 2009, we had prayed from the source of the Toms River in Monmouth County to the location of our future home at the intersection of Toms River and South Toms River. We were now completing the journey, praying at four locations - Huddy Park, Ocean Gate, Island Heights, and Seaside Park.
Toms River - Huddy Park
Our team, all from Shore Vineyard, gathered at Huddy Park, about 100 yards from our church building. From here, we pulled down all the prayers that have been prayed in the region. We blessed the church of the region and the municipalities. And we blessed the river itself, which had flooded this park a year only. We thanked God for his outpouring over the region.
Ocean Gate - AT&T Long Lines Building
This is a strategic location on the south side of the river near the mouth. The AT&T Long Lines was the primary US origination point for Ship-to-Shore communications during all the war years up until 1999. This site was also a key Indian site with many pools for oysters and clams. We prayed here for the strategic prayer and communication all over the region.
Island Heights - Methodist Camp Meeting
This was a great location to pray for the church of the region. Island Heights is a great community but can feel like a well off enclave. We prayed that the church of the region would be out among the people. We prayed that there would be a new move of God at least as powerful as the Methodist movement.
I had noticed for some time that the memorial locations in a town or city were often spiritually dark or sad places. This is true even more for national memorials. This was a first foray into our nations memorials. The team was all friends from Shore Life Church in New Jersey.and we did it on the coldest day of the year.
U.S. Memorials 1 - 2018
We prayed to change the spiritual atmosphere at three of the nations memorials:
Arlington National Cemetery
Vietnam War Memorial
Martin Luther King Jr Memorial
And we sealed our prayers at David’s Tent DC.
Arlington National Cemetery near Tomb of the Unknowns
Arlington Cemetery is not generally thought of as a war memorial but it is. We prayed at this location to remember all military who have served our nation. It also happens to be where Richard’s father, Col Norman L Tittle is buried, a hundred feet away from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We prayed for the lifting off of grief for many and reconciliation for many others.
United States Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Because of how difficult the Vietnam War was in the American psyche, this memorial has resulted in more emotions than any other memorial. We used this as a place to pray for our armed forces in all of its wars.
Dr Martin Luther King Jr Memorial
While this is not a war memorial, we find this to be one of the most important memorials for our nation. Dr King was the greatest leader in our history in the fighting of the war for racial and social justice in our nation. Just the quotations along that are posted on the memorial are among the most profound sayings outside the Bible. We prayed here that Jesus would get his way along with Dr King in the fight for justice.
David's Tent DC
This tent has been offering 24/7 worship on the National Mall since September 2015. It’s where we go before or after any prayer initiative in DC.
Rock Creek flows from the northern part of Montgomery County MD into Washington DC and empties into the Potomac River just east of Georgetown. Prophetically, its flow represents the ministry of the churches of Montgomery County and our desire to bless the city of Washington, D.C. and the entire metro area.
