Healing the Jersey Shore 2013

Superstorm Sandy was a devastating storm in New Jersey from Long Beach Island north. Many homes and businesses never recovered. Our own church, Shore Vineyard, was flooded and restored only through the generosity of many other people and churches. The concept of this prayer journey was to pray for the the restoration of communities that had been particularly devastated. This journey was completed in June 2012.

Healing the Jersey Shore Prayer Locations

Healing the Jersey Shore Prayer Locations

For this journey, we had about 20 people total. We prayed at locations that had been devastated by Sandy 7-8 months earlier. We found that a secondary story emerged over the day. Several of the people who prayed with us were also able to tell the story of how they were restored from personal devastation during the same period - addiction, poverty, prostitution. We prayed at Long Beach Island, Beach Haven West, Seaside Heights, Mantoloking, Sea Bright, Union Beach, and Toms River.

Saint Francis Community Center Barnegat

For several years after Sandy devastated Long Beach Island communities, the community center was headquarters for the recovery.

Mantaloking after Sandy

Mantaloking after Sandy

Part of the Mantaloking bridge was destroyed and a portion of Rt 35 was washed away. Here we prayed for the entire New Jersey shore area, for the beach to be united to the mainland and for north and south communities to be restored and work well together.

Prayer Team at Union Beach NJ

Prayer Team at Union Beach NJ

Many of the homes in Union Beach were destroyed and some chose not to rebuild. Here we prayed for the funds and inspiration for families to rebuild. We also prayed for all of the non beach communities north of here that had been devastated by flooding from Sandy.
